Complaints begin from Beach Residents

Early in 2016, complaints from neighbors in the Beach community – over the height of the fill pile – start to make their way to Town Hall. Even at this early stage the legality of what is transpiring at the Public Works Aggregate Fill Pile is being questioned with First Selectman Tetreau emailing his staff and stating:

“Joe – Did you get back to me on the large dirt pile down by the beach area?  I am hearing this is illegal. What is the scoop?  Mike”

In this email chain, you also see the Superintendent of Public Works – who should be overseeing the contractor – instead emails the contractor’s principals the following:

“FYI – Trying not to get you nervous, but Joe is getting heat, we should discuss, reduction of pile has to be biggest priority”

This will mark the beginning of dozens upon dozens of emails being traded between Beach Residents, a local conservation group and the Town Administration regarding the size and safety of the Fill Pile.
