Beach Residents Turn up the Heat

The Beach residents have formed an association that includes doctors and lawyers and they are demanding answers and action. In advance of a public meeting being held to assuage concerns, the Beach association presents a series of questions that – in part – seek clarification on:

  • Process to monitor and reject hazardous and contaminated materials.
  • Process to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Clarify whether the operations are grandfathered from environmental regulations (the statement from Osprey was vague on this point).
  • Given there were significant data gaps concerning the composition and depth of the base municipal solid waste layer as well as fill material, what is being done to address? Was a core sample taken?
  • Status of DEEP citation for registering/complying with storm water Permit? Was the recently installed sedimentation basin in response to the citation?

The First Selectman and his team begin a series of bi-weekly meetings to assuage the neighbors and convince them of the administration’s desire to reduce the size of the fill pile.
